The Emotional Rollercoaster of a Wired Lady

I was back at the ortho's office on Thursday and feeling very optimistic about potential news. Here I am...looking happy and excited about the prospect of today hearing those magical words..."you're getting them off!"

Here I am, even happier, as most metal is removed and I get to...floss without wires!! Ooooh the nerd I am.

Then....here I am after leaving the appointment...

Not quite the look I am hoping for. As you can see, my braces are very much still on (actually, more metal was even added, I had no idea this was possible, but I stand corrected) -- and my rubber bands are in even more bizarre positions.

So bizarre....they had to draw me a little map....

I don't know if I should be more upset they had to give me a map because I still have bands or...if I should be mad because it took them almost two years to share with me the fact they even have maps. Hello!? Would have been helpful around month 18!

So, more metal, more bands...and more braces.

The only potentially good news was the doc did say...she thinks next time might be my last check-up. I wish I could believe her.

I go back tomorrow because the new lady who strapped the wires back on screwed up and cut one too short.

The real next check-up will be in about 3 weeks.

No braces coming out party planned yet.

I have read your blog for a while now since I have gone through my braces and surgery. Just wanted to tell you that it was 13 months after my BSSO and Leforte 1 that I FINALLY had my braces off! So for some people it just takes longer! Hang in there! I love my new jaw/teeth/smile so it was worth it even though I felt like it was never going to happen. Oh yes, I had 11 months of some sort of elastic configuration and I am still finding them all over my house, my car, my job...

your blog is HILARIOUS! I'm also a 20 something with braces. Its a trip!!! Its really bad that I'm confused as to whether they want me to keep my braces on to make more money or its because the ortho genuinely thinks I need more time and more metal. The highlight of my braces adventure was when upon meeting someone for the first time they called my braces train tracks. Ah, life is good. Keep on writing!

I remembered this post of yours today... Was hoping for a debanding date, and it didn't happen, again. (Yeah, let's cement more shit to my teeth.) And amen to whoever said that the rubber bands turn up EVERYWHERE once you start wearing them. It shouldn't be physically possible - but they're all over the house, at the office, at the gym. They made it to my boyfriend's bed in Jordan before I did.

Hi WL! Additional metal is usually done for last minute corrections prior to removing the braces. My sister had her braces removed last year by the (Savannah) dentists. It had been 2 years and a half before she finally got rid of her metal adorned smile. It was a good decision nonetheless because the dentist (Savannah) made sure that she would be able to have her alignment corrected after wearing braces.

Let's be positive about your de-banding. Three weeks is not such a long time. Good luck!
